VICTORIAN EMISSIONS REDUCTION TARGET DECISION DEADLINE TODAY: EXPERTS AVAILABLE

TODAY THE VICTORIAN STATE Government is due to set interim emissions reduction targets for 2025 and 2030.

These targets will test the mettle of the Andrews Government’s commitment to tackling climate change. Emissions reduction targets will also set the pace of Victoria’s transition to renewable energy and investment and employment opportunities in the state’s energy industry.

Experts are available today to discuss the economic, health and energy security implications of today’s decision.

Please contact Fiona Ivits on 0487 003 872 or Jolee Wakefield on 0415 833 948 to arrange an interview.

TALENT AVAILABLE

Dylan McConnell, research fellow at the University of Melbourne, can discuss Victoria’s emissions trajectory, potential employment and growth stemming from a strong emissions reduction target, and what action would need to be taken for the state to reduce emissions to a level consistent with the Paris Agreement.

Tony Wolfe, current power station worker, Latrobe Valley, can talk about why a strong emissions reduction target would create certainty and security for workers around the energy transition from coal to renewable energy in the Latrobe Valley.

Katherine Barraclough, Victorian chair of Doctors for the Environment, can talk about why the Andrews Government must commit to a science-based emissions reduction target to protect Victorians from serious climate health impacts, such as catastrophic bushfires and air pollution.

Tony Goodfellow, Australian Wind Alliance, can talk about how Victoria’s burgeoning wind industry needs the certainty of an emissions reduction target to proceed with large-scale developments that will provide employment and energy security for regional Victoria.
