Leading energy infrastructure company, Jemena, has today announced its ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Commenting on the announcement, Jemena’s Managing Director, Frank Tudor, said it provides a clear signal that the company will play a leading role in supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.

“As we map a path towards a net zero future, we will build on the many relationships we have both within and outside of our sector to develop and commercialise the technology needed to deliver energy services that are reliable, affordable, and sustainable.”

“Our net zero ambition represents an important opportunity to partner across the industry to create Australia’s new energy future. Our commitment will guide our business strategy and will help shape our future investments while ensuring our customers have access to energy services which are fit for the 21st century.”

Mr Tudor said Jemena’s partnership approach has already informed the development of innovative projects in the Group’s portfolio including the Western Sydney Green Gas project – which is set to begin producing hydrogen for use in residential, storage, and transport settings later this year.

“While we don’t have all the answers, we’re excited by the challenge before us and are well positioned to meet it head on,” said Mr Tudor.

Jemena Releases 2020 Sustainability Report: Adapting to Change

Today’s announcement coincides with the release of the Group’s 2020 Sustainability Report: Adapting to Change.

“Our report title: Adapting to Change reflects many of the challenges faced by our Group and the broader community last year,” said Mr Tudor.

“We’re very proud of the way our people and our Group quickly embraced technology and adapted to new ways of working while continuing to deliver energy services and solutions for our 1.8 million customers. We believe it is this adaptability and ability to make the most of technology that will serve us well as we respond to the challenges we face as an energy sector over the coming years.”

Mr Tudor said the report provides detailed insight into the Group’s environmental and social activities and achievements across 2020, while outlining the Group’s governance structures.
