Construction Compliance Blitz and priority vaccination initiative sensible move

Melbourne, Vic., Sep. 13, 2021 /Medianet/ --

The Victorian Chamber welcomes the compliance blitz that will take place in Victoria’s construction industry from today to improve COVIDSafe compliance. We also welcome the push to drive-up vaccination rates across that workforce.

From today, the State Government will give workers within the construction industry priority access to 20,000 Pfizer appointments and unlimited access to AstraZeneca. The doors to four of Victoria’s major vaccination centres will be open for construction workers to walk-in every day until September 26.

The Government will also provide Incolink with unlimited supply of AstraZeneca for its COVID-19 construction vaccination program.

Furthermore, 50 teams from the Government’s Industry Enforcement and Engagement Operation, in conjunction with WorkSafe and the Victorian Building Authority, will be deployed to ensure construction sites are adhering to COVIDSafe conditions.

To be attributed to Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Paul Guerra:

“The Victorian Chamber supports the State Government’s engagement with the construction industry to improve COVIDSafe compliance and drive-up vaccination rates. We would like to see this program expanded to customer-facing workforces such as hospitality and retail, as well as childcare and education after the construction blitz.

“The Victorian Chamber is also advocating for greater clarity on how the 90 per cent vaccination rate for construction workers will be documented and communicated when those levels become mandated and how that could serve as a pilot for other industries.

“Business is looking for immediate clarity, certainty and guidance on the issues of mandatory vaccination rates and vaccination as a condition of entry, and these should be contained in the State’s Roadmap out of lockdown.”
