MEDIA RELEASE 5 June 2021

Construction Company and CFMEU Implement Plan for COVID-19 Diagnosis

A Melbourne construction worker has tested positive for COVID-19. The CFMEU and the construction company Probuild worked together to immediately implement all the safety procedures to mitigate any further cases.

The employee, a cleaner on the Probuild CBD site, has not worked on other sites and after receiving a positive result of COVID-19, she contacted her employer.

John Setka Secretary CFMEU Vic-Tas said, “Our existing COVID-19 safety plan implemented in early 2020 continues to demonstrate our safety systems are working.  One of our representatives contacted DHHS on Friday to inform them of the positive case and that we had already shut down the site and commenced contact tracing.”

All workers identified as being in ‘close contact’ with the diagnosed employee will get tested and isolate whilst awaiting a negative result before returning to work. The remaining workers will return to work after the site has been deep cleaned.

The necessary procedures to ensure the health and safety of workers have been implemented, including the employment of a hospital-grade specialist cleaning company to perform a thorough deep clean.

The CFMEU is committed to following the safety measures and guidelines put in place to ensure the wellbeing of all on site management, workers, and the broader community.
